Full Time Professional
General Blacksmith, Coppersmith, Jeweller
Born in Burgundy, France, he moved to Ireland in 1985, and it seems with no intention to go anywhere else, presently living in Ennis.
Guy has many passions in life, the main ones: cooking and forging as a blacksmith.
Trained in Dijon for 4 years as an apprentice, then serving 2 years as a 'young companion' involving him in many projects with the National Monuments Department, and many other projects.
Then recession directed him to his other passion: cooking. Trained as a chef in Beaune, the gastronomic capital of Burgundy, a very successful international career has followed, bringing him in some of the most famous places all over the world.
But in his mind, he always has known that, when finished with cooking, he will come back to his first love, the forge.
Most of his work is art, mainly sculptures. The forge suits well his way of thinking, “Born to create, born to improve.” The possibility to modify a piece at anytime accommodates his way, allowing to make alterations to a sculpture.
His inspiration come from everywhere, a broken branch, a flying bird, etc, but he has a strong attraction to what he calls “the gentle Japanese curves,” smooth to the eyes. Also the movements created by the flames in a fire, the water, the wind inspire him a lot.
He loves mixing materials, wood, stone, glass etc. Always in search of something new, different, as he often mentioned, he is more interesting in what he may do, that what he has done, taking the future as a free open blackboard.
Taking perfection as a direction, not a destination.
