Glenravel Farm

We join with the fantasic annual Traditional Skills Festival and Glenravel International Furnace Festival this year to bring you the first 'Nordy Forgy' - Norn Iron!

Are you ready for a weekend of smelting, reconnection to craft, heritage farming, biodiverse land, traditional home life, local history and the Forged In Ireland team demonstrating forge and smithing skills.

At the heart of the weekend is the Glenravel International Furnace Festival, where visitors can watch expert smelters build traditional clay furnaces and turn locally sourced iron ore into workable iron using ancient Iron Age techniques.

The wider festival - the Folk Wisdom Weekend and the Traditional Skills Festival - focuses on reconnecting people with older ways of living and making and is a celebration of craft, farming, home life, local history, biodiversity, sustainability, and storytelling.

Over the weekend there are:

  • Hands-on workshops in willow weaving, wool spinning, pottery, tapestry weaving, traditional music, and more.
  • Heritage craft demonstrations spread across the farm.
  • Talks and guided tours about local iron mining history and the industrial heritage of Glenravel.
  • Family-friendly activities, craft trails, music, campfires, and camping opportunities.

As part of the weekend, Forged in Ireland will highlight traditional and contemporary forging techniques. Visitors can watch skilled smiths at work, learn about the tools and materials used, and gain insight into how iron production shaped communities across Ireland. The demonstrations are practical, informative, and suitable for all ages.
