The Forged In Ireland team had a fantastic weekend at the Flavours of Fingal County Show, returning once again to Newbridge House and Farm with the sights, sounds, and smells of traditional blacksmithing and iron smelting.
We were incredibly lucky with the weather, which stayed beautiful throughout the weekend, and it was wonderful to see so many people stopping by our forges and chatting with the smiths.
A huge thank you to everyone who came over to watch the demonstrations, ask questions, share stories, and learn more about traditional ironworking. Your curiosity and enthusiasm made the weekend all the more enjoyable.
Our Iron Smelting Furnace School was another great success, with participants working together to build and operate the furnace over the two days. The team successfully smelted two excellent iron blooms, a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work of everyone involved.
Alongside the iron smelting, the experimental copper smelt was also a success. Despite its highly experimental nature, the team managed to produce a few precious drops of copper - an exciting result that provides a great foundation for future experiments and research.
There was plenty happening around the forge throughout the weekend too. Tuuli's Jewellery Schoolery was busy from start to finish, with children delighted to cold-forge and personalise their own bracelets to take home. Seeing so many young people discovering metalworking for the first time was one of the real highlights of the show.
Thank you once again to the organisers of Flavours of Fingal, to everyone who visited us over the weekend, and to all the volunteers, demonstrators and participants who helped make it such a memorable event. We can't wait to do it all again next year!
