Heritage Blacksmith, Tutor or Experiences
I have been playing around at blacksmithing for just over 40 years (don't be fooled by that as I can still make rookie mistakes)!
I now work for National Museums NI as a full time Blacksmith/craft demonstrator at the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh and also run my teaching forge at my address outside Magherafelt.
My preferred work is in 17th/19th Century Ironwork mainly domestic items (door furniture, hinges etc.), rather than large scale gates/railings as my shop has no crane facilities.
Part of my teaching ethos is the willingness to take 11-17 year old students as I know the importance of bringing new people into our craft, while there are other teaching forges in the North of Ireland, most seem reluctant to take on this age bracket of students - I have been fully vetted through my work in Museums and have insurance as part of my business.
